overview

what is heavy?

heavy is an online service to create interactive audio content. Upload Pure Data patches to your account, heavy then generates plugins that you can download and drop into your projects.

For more information see the documentation.

how do I get started?

Create an account for free and start uploading your patches.

do I need to know how to code in order to use heavy?

Coding knowledge is not necessary! We can automatically compile plugins for most platforms.

If you are more technically inclined, you can also download the generated source code for your patches and integrate them just about anywhere.

will heavy run on [insert] platform?

Very likely, the code heavy generates already supports windows, macos, linux, ios, android, web and other embedded systems. It's low-level enough that we can probably make it run in most places.

can I make private patches?

For sure! Signing up for a paid plan will let you make your patches private. The free open plan can only create public patches.

are my patches safe?

Absolutely. All communications with heavy takes place over secure HTTPS connections, the database is encrypted, and backups are made offsite. All data remains within the European Economic Area under the Data Protection Directive.

is there a maximum number of patches I can create?

You may create as many patches as you want!

what's the difference between a personal and organisation account?

Personal accounts are for individuals.

You need a personal account in order to set up an organisation.

Organisation accounts have the same basic functionality and allow multiple members to be added for collaboration on shared patches and other features, such as copyright assignment, see below.

how do seats work?

Seats only pertain to organisations. Each personal account (or member) can be assigned to one seat.

licensing

can I use heavy for commercial purposes?

Yes. All code generated by heavy can be used for commercial purposes, even with a free account.

under what licence is heavy provided?

  • All of the static (non-patch related) code has an open source ISC licence and is available to download here.

  • For organisation accounts the generated (patch-related) code will be assigned directly to the account owner, granting all rights without restriction.

  • For personal accounts the generated code requires public attribution as described below:

payment

what payment methods do you support?

We support payment by all major credit cards supported by Stripe.

do I need to enter card details when signing up?

The personal open account is free to create and doesn't require any payment information on sign up.

how long is a subscription?

Paid plan subscriptions are all billed monthly beginning on the day of signup.

can I switch plans or cancel at any time?

Yes! Switch plans, change the number of seats, or cancel at any time. You will be refunded a prorated amount according to the number of full days remaining in your billing period.

what happens if I downgrade from a paid plan?

Patches will never be removed without your permission.

If you downgrade to the free open plan, or if your payment fails then private patches owned by your account will become frozen. This means they will remain accessible but no additional changes can me made to the content or settings.
